Shane Stapleton on Galway: "There's a cut of Sergio Ramos about them"

All-Ireland Champions Galway put the rest of the hurling world on notice with a ruthless display on Sunday which brought an eight point win over Kilkenny.

The Tribesmen dominated from the off and restricted the Cats to three scores from play in the match.

Shane Stapleton joined Monday's OTB AM to discuss their performance and speaking to Ger, he said: "There is something very processed driven about them. For every position they just seem to have someone (playing) where 'that makes sense'.

"We'll probably come on to Tipp in a minute but Limerick against Tipp - you're looking at the team when it was named going 'Whats going on here? With Galway, everything seems to make sense. They've got pace throughout the team - they've got power throughout the team. And actually, there's a cut of Sergio Ramos about them as well because they don't mind leaving one on either. They, at times, bullied Kilkenny yesterday.

"That spine of Daithí Burke - what a full-back, unbelevalble! Gearóid McInerney, just a powerhouse and both of them could have been sent off.

"The one time that Kilkenny got behind - Kilkenny really struggled for scores. They only got three scores from play in the entire game - how 'un-Kilkenny' is that?

"But, the one time they got through in the first half, Luke Scanlon soloed through brilliantly and Daithí Burke just came out and threw his body at him - it was the sort of thing that you'd see in wrestling.

"There's an element of 'playing on the edge' and there's an element in hurling of 'just get up and play on' but at the same time he threw is body at him.

"And in the second half, Gearóid McInerney, who had been yellow carded in the same incident - this is an interesting one I found. Daithí Burke absolutely pulverised Luke Scanlon for that penalty and then the camera cuts over and back and you see Liam Blanchfield - he's down on the ground looking up at the Galway defenders...but basically Galway went out and rough-housed Kilkenny to some degree there and nobody from Kilkenny said 'Right, I'm going to take the law into my own hands here' and they just kind of took it.
