Roy Keane "tore Gary Neville's punditry to bits" - John Giles

John Giles has backed Roy Keane's views on the Manchester United performance last night over Gary Neville's assessment.

Former Man United team-mates Keane and Neville were part of Sky Sports' punditry team at Old Trafford as Manchester City claimed a 2-0 derby win.

In typical Keane fashion, the former captain did not hold back in his view of the Man United players.

Among other things, the ex-Ireland midfielder said there were "too many bluffers at this club".

Neville, on the other hand, was less hard-hitting in his view of the players' efforts.

Leeds and Ireland legend John Giles joined us on Off The Ball and he agreed with Keane's punditry.

"Nonsense"

"What Roy Keane was alluding to was the things that he did when he was a player," he said.

"I thought Keane was brilliant last night in his analysis and actually tore Neville to bits.

"What Neville was saying didn't make sense to me. Neville made a case that the way City play, they tire out [opponents]. Well, that's nonsense to be quite honest. I think it's nonsense. You don't get tired with half an hour or more to go."

Expanding on Fred, John also added: "You don't make excuses for players not having it in them. What he didn't have in him was an effort to run back. That's a given as a player."

"The fact is Fred messed up because he was lazy and not doing what he should be doing," he said.

Giles also touched on Keane's criticism of Paul Pogba and how the Cork man would end up being frustrated if he was his manager.

"If Keane was managing Pogba, he'd never sleep," he said.

He also didn't favour Neville's pre-match interview with Man United manager and ex-team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

"Again, with Gary Neville, he shouldn't be doing that interview with Solskjaer," he said.

"He wasn't asking him hard questions. It was a bit of a laugh and a bit of a joke. He's a pundit."
