Regardless of what happens this season, we're entering the twilight of Arsene Wenger's Arsenal career.
Whether a fixed succession plan is in place or not is not known.
Arsenal legend Ray Parlour, who was part of the Invincibles side of 2003-04 and won three Premier League titles and four FA Cups under Wenger and remains fond of his former manager, joined Joe and he pondered what follows next for his former club once Wenger departs.
"I think they'll assess it at the end of the season. You know, you need to be playing Champions League football and now you look at Spurs have improved and lots of clubs have improved and you could probably argue Arsenal have stayed still and that's the problem from the supporters' point of view," he said.
"That's why you've got to change, whether it's the mentality of buying better players or bigger players or spending more money, I don't know. I don't sit down in the board room and the owners. What is their aim for the club?
"Abramovich came into Chelsea and said, 'We're going to win trophies'. And he delivered. He put the money down on the table. I know he spent a billion pounds but some people want to run it as a business. That is a big problem."
While he feels the board are "happy with the manager" presently, Parlour believes Wenger's successor needs to be identified and sounded out early.
"It's who you wish for next. That's the hard bit. It's alright sacking managers but you've got to have that plan," he said.
"Now, whether Arsene Wenger's going to be there for two years which he's signed I don't know.
"But you've got to start trying to plan now for the future, try and start now. Managers don't hang around these days. You won't get no more Arsene Wengers staying at clubs for 20 years plus. They'll usually be there for 3-4 years maximum."
