'I talked to a few managers and promoters before I turned pro and I didn't really get the warm welcome I was looking for'

Ray Moylette admits he found it tough to find representation at the start of his professional career.

Speaking on Tuesday morning's OTB AM with special guest presenter and former world champion boxer Andy Lee, the Mayo native shared his experience of looking for a promoter during his professional career.

"I talked to a few managers and a few promoters before I turned pro and I didn't really get the warm welcome I was looking for," he said.

"I thought I had a good amateur background but I knew I missed out on the Olympics.

"I thought I would be have been more inviting coming to these promoters and managers, but I wasn't. I felt that."

Moylette, now represented by Assassin Promotions, said he felt thankful of the support he received from the agency.

"I went to Brighton, to Kaz [Evans] from Assassin and had a cup of tea with him. They gave me a warm welcome. They couldn't do more for me. We put a plan on the table and we agreed to it there and then.

"I came with an agenda and when he agreed to it straightaway, I took a step back.

"What I took from the first meeting with him was he was fairly new to the game, but he was ambitious and was hungry. He was constantly trying to make new contacts.

"He was constantly trying to get to the next level.

"When I signed over, I was the main boxer in his stable at the time. All of his work was geared towards me.

"If I had jumped into Matchroom or one of the other stables with a lot boxers, I would be just another number.

"This guy needed me as much as I needed him."

Moylette also hailed the backing of Irish boxing by TG4, the channel which will stream his WBC International Title fight with Christian Uruzquieta on 7 December in Castlebar.

Should he overcome the Mexican, Moylette is setting his sights on the division's top dog.

"Lomachenko is the man in the weight. I've never fought him, but I was in a training camp with him in Ukraine. He was 60kg or 64kg and sparring welterweights - 69kg.

"He wouldn't spar anyone within two weight categories of him. That was good news for us, I never had to jump in with him."
