How the kicking game will decide Ireland vs New Zealand

It's just over two years since Ireland finally ended their winless record against the mightly All Blacks.

But as New Zealand arrive in Dublin for the latest test and with a World Cup on the horizon, how are Ireland primed to repeat the victory in Chicago?

Former Leinster and Scotland head coach Matt Williams joined Joe Molloy on Wednesday Night Rugby and after a few underwhelming results of late for the All Blacks, Matt believes New Zealand will be back close to their best this weekend.

"I think this will be the week that will see the best out of them," he said.

"I think we'll see the best of the Kiwis this week. I think they're still the best team in the world. Not unbeatable, absolutely not - South Africa proved that - but still the best."

As for the game-plan from both sides, Matt believes the kicking game will swing the match.

"New Zealand kick the ball more than any other side in the world and I think their kicking game will put pressure on Ireland to launch their attack from places that they're uncomfortable with," said Williams.

"That will be key. Can Ireland cope with that kicking game? Shane Horgan always says to me the times that Joe Schmidt's teams lose is when they lose the kicking game. He said, 'If they win the kicking game, they'll win'. Since then, I've observed that and it seems to be the truth."
