Kevin Kilbane on Fabregas: "He was a total arse on the pitch"

On Wednesday night's show, Kenny Cunningham shared his memory of the type of trash talking ex-Wales striker Craig Bellamy used to get onto on the pitch.

The former Newcastle United and Manchester City forward's approach was more in line with trying to irritate but was done in a funny and even charming way.

Cesc Fabregas was a different story as Kevin Kilbane recalled on the Newsround tonight.

Backing up Kenny's overall take on Bellamy's more charming approach to trash talking, he contrasted that with then Arsenal captain Fabregas who was a completely different matter.

"Cesc Fabregas was a total arse," was his dictionary definition of the now Chelsea playmaker.

"He was an absolute arse on the pitch, Fabregas. So disrespectful. Just mouth."

Kevin picked out an example from a match when he was at Huddersfield with the scores against Arsenal at 1-1 back in 2011.

"And then Fabregas comes onto the pitch and he was going up against Joey Gudjohnsen," he said.

"He goes up to Joey Gudjohnsen and he says, 'You're sh*t, your team-mates are sh*t' and to be fair to Fabregas he scored a penalty and I was like, 'Cesc, this is Huddersfield, what are you doing?'"

But he also explained that at that time, there was a general demeanour of arrogance around some Arsenal players when you went into tackle them.

"You'd tackle them and there were one or two others in the side who were a bit like that in that era as well," he said.

"You went into tackle them and it was a bit like that [miming a look of utter disdain]. It was just the little look they'd give you after you went near them - 'Who are you to touch me?'"
