Is the future multi-purpose stadia?

Stadia are like sausages. We all enjoy them, but no-one really wants to know how they are made. Except vegans, who have a masochism built into them that is best left unexplored.

Public expenditure is an interesting nexus of the important and the inaccessible. In terms of bare numbers, 'your average person'TM might be able to discern that the £798m spent on Wembley Stadium - £1.09bn in today's terms - was a touch excessive. But the mechanics of budgets, committees and endless amendments mean that only the most diligent journalists keep the public engaged in where their money is going.

So it follows that when situations like that of Páirc Uí Chaoimh come to attention, those uninitiated in the process ask how our money can be spent better. Could bodies engage with clubs, the community and sponsors in a more efficient way if we had multi-purpose grounds?

The question arose on OTB AM this morning, and we are interested in your thoughts. To avoid the pitfalls of talking around in circles, we would like to hear your experiences of working with local and national government, where the blockages are for most efficient funding and use of stadia and the advantages and disadvantages of sharing stadia.

All that and more on this morning's OTB AM live in association with Screwfix.ie, and as usual you can get your comments and thoughts into us on Facebook by following Off The Ball.

You can watch OTB AM from 7:45 every weekday morning on our Facebook, YouTube and Periscope channels. If you would like to see more sporting videos, like and subscribe any of our pages or log onto offtheball.com.
