"In the other four games I was pretty happy with how I struck the ball"

Johnny Sexton has brushed aside any potential worries about his kicking game ahead of Leinster's Champions Cup quarter-final with Saracens this weekend.

The Leinster fly-half's form from the boot wained in the latter stages of the Six Nations, notably missing three consecutive kicks against Wales in the opening stages, but says claims the misses against England were down to difficult placements and poor weather conditions.

"Obviously against Wales I didn't kick it as well as I'd like, but in the other four games I was pretty happy with how I struck the ball".

"Even the one in Twickenham, I felt I hit it down the right side thinking there was quite a swirly wind, it quite difficult to deal with. I hit it exactly where I wanted but it came off the post".

When quizzed about why he let Conor Murray step in to kick Sexton recalled a knock he'd suffered moments before, and dismissed concerns about his mental state when it comes to kicking, noting the difficulty of the misses against England.

"I picked up a bang and felt that it was a straightforward enough penalty so I told Murray to kick it over and I went off after that.

"Even in that game I probably hit one bad kick. I hit two from the touchline and I was pretty happy when the ball came off my boot. Even the one that came off the post, I was happy when the ball came off my boot, but it was just one of those days".
