Felipe Contepomi's ready to fall in love with Dublin and Ireland all over again

Almost a decade on from his departure from Leinster following a successful six year spell with the province as a player, Felipe Contepomi is returning as a coach.

The former Argentina legend will replace former team-mate Girvan Dempsey as Leinster backs coach.

And as he prepares to take on the new role from next season, he joined Joe Molloy on the line to discuss why he has decided to make a return to Irish rugby and his former province.

It followed conversations with his former team-mate Leo Cullen who is now Leinster head coach as well as Stuart Lancaster and current out-half Jonathan Sexton.

"The opportunity came and I spoke to Leo Cullen. He gave me a call and Stuart Lancaster and then I spoke to Johnny and to be honest I'd never expected such an opportunity but when it came forward I thought it was a great chance for me because I know the team - not the team itself, but I know Leinster - I know the city and I know the people there that are running the show so for me, it was a great place to go," he said.

In terms of those conversations, he explained that the chats with the key trio at Leinster, Lancaster was "interested more in my philosophy of rugby", while Cullen filled him in on the developments at the province in recent times.

And one thing's for sure. Contepomi is eager to return to a Dublin he fell in love with during his playing days.

"I think Irish people are special and for me, going back to Dublin is part of going back to that Irish culture that I loved when I'd been there for six years and I'm sure that I will enjoy it again," he said.
