"Halfway through the match you had a lump of black pudding coming up"

When it comes to team preparation, times have certainly changed as Brid Stack knows.

The Cork legend was part of our Off The Bench panel for the launch of the Lidl National Leagues.

And as we previewed 2019, she reminisced about the more old-school prep for matches.

"It's such a stark contrast to what's going on at the moment," she said.

"You go back another 10-20 years and it's gone back again. The leaps and bounds are just absolutely phenomenal.

Full Irish

"I remember one of the first years I was on the senior team, I think I was 15 or 16. And this was before Eamonn [Ryan] came on board.

"We were going up the country for a Championship game. We stopped off in Mother Hubbards on the way up and every player had a massive full-Irish fry put in front of them.

"That was our pre-match [meal]! Halfway through the match then, you had a lump of black pudding coming up to say hello.

"But we didn't know any different and we didn't think any different. I think it wasn't until Eamonn came on board - and he was coming from a men's football setup, so he had exposure to a lot more professionalism than we had - and he just made changes.

"It was just simple changes. Granted, we were probably still eating a lot of hot chicken rolls at that stage in 2004. But a lot of that changed and it's all information and learning as you go along."
