Brian O'Driscoll on Joey Carbery game-time: "He's in a really tough spot"

It's currently a down week for the Six Nations as the club and provincial sides take precedence.

But it's also a good time for reflection for Ireland and co. So that's exactly what we did with Brian O'Driscoll this Friday night as he joined Ger and Dave to look back through some of the main narratives from the first two rounds of the Six Nations.

One of those was the best way to get game-time for Joey Carbery, an outstanding young talent, who finds himself down the pecking order at 10, 12 and 15 in an Ireland jersey.

"He's in a really tough spot. Because of Ross Byrne as well, because Ross Byrne has gone well for Leinster this year," said Brian.

"Because Joey's been injured at times he doesn't get any of the game time, because of Jonathan Sexton in the big European games, so he's really caught between two stools at the moment.

"Ultimately, I don't what his minutes are like for the year but they're very, very low comparatively to everyone else."

Dave added that Carbery had only placed 22 minutes since October before his second half appearance against Italy last weekend.

"I really feel for him," BOD continued, before touching on how Carbery fares if he played at 12 in terms of both defence and attack.

"I'm starting to grow to the idea of seeing him potentially in a 12 role because again, when you talk to the coaches, they all speak very highly of Joey.

"He obviously trains very well and he has the ability to make people look silly on the training park. His feet are wicked. It's back-three feet and winger footwork in close proximity and that's why he never gets absolutely annihilated [by opposition tackles]."
