Bernard Jackman was hard done by - Matt Williams

Matt Williams believes that Dragons have done badly to relieve Bernard Jackman of his duties as head coach of the Welsh side.

The former Leinster coach joined Keith Wood and Joe Molloy on Wednesday Night Rugby with Eir Sport, and Williams drew on his own experience of leaving a club rugby role to empathise with Jackman.

"It's horrible. Coaches are people.

"Why is it always 'sacked'? 'Sacked' is just cliched terminology. The union broke his contract - he didn't break his contract. He would still have turned up for work. The union broke his contract.

"That's what happens to you. Your children hear about it in the paper. It is a terrible thing that happens to rugby people that gave their life to it.

"It happened to me, and I felt hugely aggrieved by it. And for the same reason: 'Your club is absolute rubbish. We are going to come in and turn it around. This cannot be done in twelve months. This is a thirty-six month programme.'

"It is almost impossible to turn a team around in under thirty-six months unless you have got millions and millions of dollars to buy a new team.

"If you have got to grow that team, that takes time. When they cut you half-way through, you are going 'Well, I had told you that this would be the case."

Matt sees a wider trend at play here, meaning the end for the Irishman at the Welsh club.

"They have put a lot of things in place, but the ruthlessness of professionalism has come into rugby and he won't be able to see it through. I feel for him."
