"Ballyliffin one of the tougher links courses I’ve played in Ireland" - Gavin Moynihan

Ahead of tomorrow’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Open in Ballyliffin Golf Course, Irish golfer Gavin Moynihan spoke to OTB about his preparations for the tournament.

"The sixes was great. It was a nice few days and the best I’ve played all year. I only got in here Friday evening. Getting the call was great so I played the last few years and I’ve enjoyed it and I’ve played well, I jumped up the board," he said.

"It’s a very easy-going week for me, just relaxing. It’s a win-win as I said before, just enjoy the week and just go for it.

"One of the biggest factors was playing with Paul, it was that relaxed, we both played well. I just wanted to make a cut and slowly get back to where I was, getting over that line. I’m happy with my game play.

"Golf is 70% mental and 30% the rest. I finished 14th last year in what was probably a better field. I feel my games good enough and just getting there is the hard part."

"This year probably has been the toughest. I didn’t really have any time off. I played seven or eight weeks in a row then I got two weeks off for Christmas and I was gone again. That was a bit new and it does taking getting used to. I’m just taking it easy, I love it and you enjoy it a bit better when you’re playing well.

"Maybe when I was a bit younger I’d probably look at them, not as much a I used to and maybe hardly anything at the moment, you just kind of get yourself in, check and get your own game right instead of looking at other boys.

"You can make a bogey from nowhere. Here it’s one of the tougher links courses I’ve played in Ireland. I’m looking forward to the week and see how we go."
