Tyrone and Kerry All-Ireland semi-final rescheduled for second time

Tyrone and Kerry's All-Ireland Senior Football Championship semi-final has been rescheduled for a second time.

The game will now take place on Saturday 28 August.

The winner will then face Mayo in the final on the new date of Saturday 11 September.

The last four encounter between Kerry and Tyrone was originally due to be played on Sunday 15 August.

Tyrone then had a Covid-19 outbreak in their squad and the game was pushed back a week.

On Saturday the Red Hand withdrew from the rescheduled fixture with joint-manager Brian Dooher saying the welfare of their players had to be prioritised.

"These players have put in a hell of an effort this year in a very challenging environment and it is disappointing that it has come to this.

"We just had to make this decision today from a player welfare point of view."

A statement from the GAA on Sunday evening said Tyrone will now be given a further week to prepare and the All-Ireland final is being pushed back a further week.

Following receipt of additional medical information from Tyrone GAA and subsequent deliberations with the relevant parties today, the GAA can confirm arrangements for the concluding stages of the 2021 Football Championship.

The second semi-final involving Kerry and Tyrone will now take place on Saturday August 28 with the winners proceeding to a final meeting with Mayo two weeks later on September 11.

This revised schedule has been finalised with the integrity of the championship in mind and to ensure that Kerry were not denied a semi-final outing.

The GAA would like to acknowledge the co-operation of all of the counties still involved in the championship and it looks forward to working with the government to finalise these arrangements.

Times for both fixtures will be confirmed in due course.
