Troy Deeney to Tottenham? | Today's transfer news

Today's transfer news brings up one of the more surprising potential moves of the window so far - will Troy Deeney join Tottenham?

In one of those moves that makes a little bit more sense the more that you think about it, the Daily Mail report that Deeney has been discussed by Tottenham as a back-up to Harry Kane.

This follows Troy Parrott's departure, but discussions have extended only to a loan. They add that Watford are keen for Deeney to leave as he is one of their higher-earners.

Transfer news

Meanwhile, Manchester United are looking to a young French centre-back to bolster a defence that looked increasingly frail towards the end of last season.

The Daily Mirror have it that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking at 19-year-old Monaco defender Benoit Badashile, as are Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen.

The move would make sense, in that Solskjaer's signings have been erring towards youth over experience, with the average age of his signings so far being 23.

Solskjaer meanwhile, is asking for £15m from Internazionale for Alexis Sanchez, according to the Daily Express. In addition to his £400,000-a-week. Hmmm.

Chelsea

Another club looking to improve their back-line is Chelsea, who are reportedly looking to Burnley's Nick Pope as a goalkeeping option.

Frank Lampard has been as enthused with Kepa Arrizabalaga as someone served a dead kitten at a Michelin-starred restaurant, so it is about time for a little switch-up.

Chelsea's expected goals have been comparable to Liverpool this year. But, the only way in which Kepa has resembled a 'keeper is that his name sort of looks like it if you squint a bit.

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace will bid £40m of the Queen's pounds for Watford winger Ismaila Sarr, on the assumption that Wilfried Zaha will leave.

Zaha has been asking for a move for longer than Roy Hodgson cares to remember, and Woy appears to have identified Sarr as the man to become Palace's next foul-magnet.
