Tottenham turn to Fonseca after failing in Conte approach

Tottenham have reportedly made an approach to Paulo Fonseca regarding their managerial vacancy.

Talks with former Inter and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte broke down last week, with the 51-year old opting instead to take a one-year sabbatical from football.

Spurs sacked Jose Mourinho days before April's Carabao Cup final, leaving Ryan Mason in temporary charge until the end of the season.

A return for former White Hart Lane boss Mauricio Pochettino had been mooted, but the attentions of the North London club have now turned to Fonseca.

The 51-year old left Roma in May, paving the way for Mourinho to take over at the Giallorossi.

Fonseca had spent two seasons in charge at the Stadio Olimpico, leading Roma to a fifth place Serie A finish during his first season in charge and a UEFA Europa League semi-final in his second.

Prior to that, he'd spent three seasons in charge of Shakhtar Donetsk, winning the Ukrainian league and cup double during each of those campaigns.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Fonseca has been offered a three-year contract at Tottenham.

The Portuguese coach is also believed to be favoured by Spurs' incoming sporting director Fabio Paratici.
