Brian Kerr believes Roy Keane's analysis is 'too rash'

Brian Kerr believes that Roy Keane's analysis that Tottenham are a middling squad is too simplistic, and that they are better than their Premier League position dictates.

Keane was quoted on Sky before Tottenham beat Burnley, saying that this squad was 'average'.

Brian Kerr on Roy Keane

"I think Spurs were a better side a few years ago with the Trippiers, Eriksens and when Alli had the hunger. Spurs are good on their day, like lots of teams.

"Jamie says there that this team is full of internationals, if you trap the ball now you'll play for your country. Everybody plays for their country, if you don't play for your country, you are a bad player.

"Which of these players would get into the Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea teams? You wouldn't touch any of them."

Kerr believes that Keane's analysis is not nuanced enough to stand up to scrutiny.

"That is too rash of an analysis, it is not a detailed analysis. If you look at the players they have, in comparison to the squad that somebody like Aston Villa, Everton, or even Leicester have, Spurs have easily as comparable a squad.

"Leicester's frontmen Maddison and Vardy might compare to Son and Kane, but all around the pitch Spurs have almost two players in each position that are comparable to everybody bar Manchester City at the moment. Maybe even Manchester United.

"I don't think that the manager has got the best use out of the players at the moment. I think the players don't have confidence in the style of play that is being promoted as being the best for them and for the club.

"As a result of that, they have lost far too many games once again. I don't think the manager has got the most out of the players at the club. I would put it down more to the manager than the players."
