Lloris undergoes surgery and is to remain out of action until January

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has undergone surgery on his left elbow.

The World Cup winner dislocated it sustained ligament damage in a Premier League defeat to Brighton last month.

Since that defeat, which saw Galway native Aaron Connolly score twice in his first league start, Mauricio Pochettino has trusted his number two keeper Argentine international Paulo Gazzaniga.

Gazzaniga has failed to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League since Lloris picked up the injury.

In that time they've played out two draws and one defeat in disappointing style.

They have however enjoyed two Champions League wins over Red Star Belgrade, where they kept their opponents scoreless.

Lloris will now be out action until January, the club revealed in a statement today.

“Following further clinical testing and examination, Hugo Lloris has now undergone surgery on his left elbow,” the statement read.

“The France goalkeeper dislocated his elbow and sustained ligament damage during our Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion last month.

“Surgery was advised after further reviews by specialists found the elbow remained unstable.

“Our Club captain remains on course to return to training in the early part of next year.”
