Tottenham come from behind to earn Brighton win

Second-half goals from Harry Kane and Dele Alli helped Spurs come from one goal down to beat Brighton 2-1 in the Premier League's lunchtime kick-off.

Having fallen behind to Adam Webster's first-half opener, Jose Mourinho's side clawed their way back in front in the north London rain to move up to fifth in the table - for a couple of hours at least.

With Tottenham coming into the game on the back of a 2-0 home defeat to Chelsea last weekend, Webster's 37th-minute goal for the away side rounded off a frustrating first half for Spurs.

The home side thought they had taken the lead when Harry Kane netted in the 24th minute - but his effort was chalked off after VAR adjudged the striker to have been marginally offside.

However, the Englishman found the target again after the break to level matters up after 53 minutes.

The tie was decided by Dele Alli's strike after 72 minutes, to lift his side up to fifth in the Premier League table and to within four points of fourth-placed Chelsea.

"The first half was a little bit disappointing,' goalscorer Kane said after the game.

"We didn't quite get going early on and obviously going 1-0 behind against a good side is never easy.

"We came out in the second half with a lot more fire, a lot more passion, and obviously getting the goal early helped as well. And then the momentum swung our way and we did well to get the second and it was a big shift to see the game out."

"Three points was the most important thing today. Obviously we'd have liked to play a bit better and scored a few more goals but that's the Premier League, you're playing good teams every game and we've got a busy schedule, so it's good to start Boxing Day with a win."
