Clare's Tony Kelly joined OTB AM this morning to discuss a great individual season and a disappointing result against Waterford - as well as an update on his ankle.
While Kelly was able to play the majority of the loss against Waterford last weekend, he told us that the injury will keep him in a protective boot for the foreseeable future.
Tony Kelly on ankle injury
“I just got it caught on Saturday evening against Waterford. It’s just a bit of ligament damage. So I’m in a boot now for a couple of weeks and I’ll try to build it up again after that," Kelly told OTB AM.
"It’s not going to keep me out too long. Maybe four, five, or six weeks, so it could have been worse.
"Obviously, the biggest disappointment of the weekend was losing. I suppose that maybe compounded it all then."
Ankle damage
Kelly told us about how the injury came about, where there were suspicions that it took place during Clare's warm-up.
"It was just over the sideline, I got it caught in the warm-up - myself and Conor Cleary were doing a shooting drill and got it caught then. It was fine after that, but going out to the sideline, whatever way I was going out I got it caught in the astroturf, it gave way and I went over.
"I did it three or four years ago on the same ankle much worse, it wasn't too bad this time round but it is just a disaster when you lose and find out you're in a boot for the next couple of weeks after.
"I've had ankle trouble where you roll it in training or a match and you know when you do a job on it.
"I knew Saturday evening that it was more on the severe side. I got back onto the field and do a small bit. It is no excuse either - when the adrenaline gets going you forget about it.
"It is just twisting and turning; straight line running wasn't too bad - it's just waking up Sunday morning you know you have a bit of damage done to it."
