Three month ban for Irish wrestler Peter Newti for anti-doping violation

Wrestler Peter Newti has been handed a three-month suspension by Sport Ireland and the Irish Amateur Wrestling Association for an anti-doping rule violation.

A sample provided by the 21-year-old at the Irish Open championship last November tested positive for the banned substance carboxy-THC.

His competition results since the 2nd of November 2019 have also been disqualified.

"Irish Amateur Wrestling Association and Sport Ireland jointly announce that Peter Newti committed an anti-doping rule violation," both bodies announced in a statement.

Peter Newti has been sanctioned by a period of ineligibility of 3 months commencing on the 16th of December 2019. In a doping control test immediately following his participation at the Irish Open on November 2nd 2019 he provided a sample, which tested positive for the presence of a prohibited substance, carboxy-THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).

Mr Newti’s results from the 2nd of November 2019 are also disqualified.

Sport Ireland's reasoned decision pursuant to Article 7.6.4 is available at https://www.sportireland.ie/anti-doping/sanctions "
