Now, Christmas and New Year's is over, we reconvened for Team 33 this week with a couple of talking points to shake off the cobwebs.
Graham Maloney was the first interviewee for 2019. A coach with Blessington FC, he joined me to discuss the process of acquiring coaching badges. Plus, he also shared his thoughts on tactical trends from 2018 and where he expects developments in the game this year.
Meanwhile, there were plenty of other talking points for us to get our teeth stuck into. With my Leitrim and Joe Coffey's Mayo involved in a FBD League penalty shootout, we briefly looked at classic soccer shootouts. And we also had a few helpful suggestions from our listeners on Twitter. So keep them coming!
Honourable mentions so far go to:
@teamthirtythree Wolves v Sheffield Wednesday in a mid 90s cup tie; Kevin Pressman hits the ball like he wants to kill it and Chris Waddle misses (again)!

Netherlands vs Italy at Euro 2000 an underrated penalty shootout https://t.co/HDfO2GD2Iq

2015 Africa Cup of Nations final between Ivory Coast and Ghana.

2002 Ireland v Spain (Spain winning 3-2 on penos) was heart wrenching as ireland had some great opportunities in the 2nd half of that game especially Harte missing the 1st of 2 IRE penos, they had the Spanish on the ropes in extra time but could not avail.

Uruguay vs Ghana in the 2010 World Cup is also up there. More for Suarez' handball during the game than the shoot-out itself.
— Enda Coll (@enda_coll) January 9, 2019
On sheer quality, the Man Utd v Derby shootout from the Carabao Cup this year was EXCELLENT. 15 cracking pens before Jones missed the crucial one

Liverpool
The festive period has also featured some interesting talking points. Our resident Liverpool aficionado Jonathan Higgins was on hand to share his view on the Manchester City clash, which could a go long way to deciding the destiny of the Premier League title.
At the same time, Manchester United have been playing with a level of freedom since Jose Mourinho's sacking which has of course piqued the interest of Derek Ryan and Enda Coll.
