What's the story behind the League of Ireland 'Watergate scandal'?

Listen to the full chat above via the podcast

Last Tuesday night in the Setanta Cup second leg match between Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers, the Watergate scandal dusted itself off after 40 years in the archives and plonked itself onto the Oriel Park turf.

This time there would be no anonymous sources or Presidents forced out of office.

Essentially the Dundalk ground staff were accused of only watering the half of the pitch that the Lilywhites would be attacking in the second half. While Dundalk did say that they put some water on the other half of the pitch, Rovers were not fully appeased.

Stuey Byrne and Roddy Collins joined us to talk through the big talking points on the domestic front and they started off by discussing 'Watergate'.

I'm amazed it's taken this long for someone to point that out," said Stuey adding that water is an ingredient which gives an advantage.

Roddy was very critical of the pitch at Dundalk, describing it as "rubber" and he also discussed the form of his own Derry City side which currently sits seventh with two wins from nine.

The lads also discussed the form of St Patrick's Athletic winger Chris Forrester who scored a veritable wonder goal against Drogheda United yesterday...
