UPDATED: West Ham and England midfielder Declan Rice out for four weeks with injury

West Ham and England midfielder Declan Rice is set to be out for four weeks with a knee injury.

The midfielder picked up the knock while on recent international duty when England beat San Marino, Albania, and Poland.

The 22-year-old suffered the set-back in their final Group I game of the window against Poland and he'll be hoping it doesn't put his European Championship hopes for the summer at risk.

It is understood Rice has been wearing a protective brace to make sure he does not cause himself any more damage.

It was confirmed over the weekend that he'd miss West Ham's Premier League game away to Wolves on Monday night.

Sky Sports then revealed on Monday that he would be out for a month.

The national side's next match is a friendly against Austria on June 2, a warm-up match for their opening Euro 2020 fixture, against Croatia on June 13.

A win for the Irons at Molineux would see them go fourth and into the last Champions League qualification spot as they look to finish off their impressive showing this season.

Manager David Moyes has recently spoken highly of Rice, saying he's developed into a leading player in their squad.

"My job is to keep West Ham at this level.

"Declan’s improvement I would hope he would look at it as the West Ham team, not just him on his own. We’ve added other players to try and help Declan improve and work with him. We’ve given him a great platform to show exactly what he is.

“In most of the games he’s been captain of the team and the club, so he’s had a real opportunity to step up. When he came into the England set-up over the past couple of weeks he’s shown exactly what he’s been doing all season.

“Maybe it took until the last couple of England games for people [elsewhere] to realise exactly what Declan’s been, but let’s be fair, he’s still young, he’s still going to make mistakes and not play well in every game, but he’s done a great job for us this season. He’s been terrific.”
