38-year-old Wes Hoolahan continues to prove his worth with table-topping Cambridge United as the Dubliner was named League Two Player of the Month for January.Β
After an impressive month for United where they went six league games unbeaten, the former Republic of Ireland international stood out as the outstanding player for the month.
"It's been a great month," Hoolahan stated in response to winning the award. "We won so many games and went through January unbeaten, so it really has been a positive month.
"It's certainly been nice to get the assists and a couple of goals to go with it. I'm delighted to win this award, but I couldn't have done it without any of the other lads.
"It's going really well, I'm hoping we can continue this journey and pick up plenty more points along the way."

After finishing 16th last season, the introduction of Wes Hoolahan has seen an upturn in United's form and they now sit top of the League Two table.
A matter of months before he celebrates his 39th birthday, Hoolahan scored two and assisted two more across five games during an enjoyable January for the club.
With the club hunting promotion back to English football's third tier for the first time in almost two decades, Hoolahan recently discussed the longevity of his career.
"Itβs about knowing your body," Hoolahan told The Guardian. "I usually wonβt train until Tuesday or Wednesday.
"Iβll have a couple of days off where Iβm just doing some stretches, get on the bike to get the legs going, taking in protein and recovery shakes β itβs a lot different now from how it was 13 years ago.
"But it seems to be working."
Making it a doubly good month for Cambridge United, manager Mark Bonner was also named League Two Manager of the Month for January.
