Cork City boss John Caulfield says he is immensely proud of his side's efforts during their 2-1 defeat to Genk at Turner's Cross this evening.
The Leesiders went into the game trying to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit, but in the end were on the wrong side of a 3-1 aggregate result.
Speaking after the game he pinpointed where it went wrong for his side this evening.
"Well, we had a nightmare 30 minutes and in Europe it's so vital to score away," he told eir Sport. "You knew when they got the first goal that you needed three.
"We lost our shape and were a small bit all over the place. We felt we gave a silly goal before half-time and it was all over then really. In the last round we were underdogs and we came through thanks to a massive performance.
"I knew tonight would be difficult because they had a really good side. But at the same time in the first leg we had a couple of chances to score and if we had gone 1-0 here, we would have still been in the match away.
"it was a night where a lot of our lads didn't play as well as they can and made wrong decisions, but overall they've I'm immensely proud of them. They've done fantastic. You know, our first time ever being in the third qualifying round.
"It's a great achievement for the club but obviously disappointing. Fantastic ground with a fantastic atmosphere and even at 2-0 down you could still hear the noise was fantastic. Hopefully it'll kick on for us for the rest of the league."
