Wayne Rooney says he's staying at Manchester United

Manchester United's all-time record goalscorer Wayne Rooney says he will not be leaving the club to go to China.

In a statement released to the Press Association Sport, Rooney dismissed speculation surrounding his future and pledged the coming years to the club.

"Despite the interest which has been shown from other clubs, for which I'm grateful, I want to end recent speculation and say that I am staying at Manchester United," he said.

"I hope I will play a full part in helping the team in its fight for success on four fronts.

"It's an exciting time at the club and I want to remain a part of it."

Rooney has found game-time hard to come by in recent months, having fallen down the pecking order behind summer signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

There had been talk that Rooney would look to cash in and spend the remainder of his career in China, where a number of other Premier League have gone in recent months including former Chelsea player Oscar.

Only on Thursday did Sky Sports claim that Guangzhou Evergrande, Beijing Guoan, Jiangsu Suning and Tianjin Quanjian are all interested in England's record goalscorer.

Rooney's agent Paul Stretford was reportedly in China, speaking to clubs about a potential move for the Manchester United captain.
