WATCH: VAR controversy as Kane winner vs Southampton ruled out

Spurs remain unbeaten in the league under Conte, but had plenty of chances to take all 3 points against Southampton on Tuesday

A Harry Kane penalty helped Tottenham continued their unbeaten run on Tuesday with a 1-1 draw against Southampton at St. Mary’s.

Kane's spot kick cancelled out James Ward-Prowse’s early goal for the Saints.

However, Spurs will undoubtedly be frustrated that they could only come away from the South coast with a point.

The home side were reduced to 10 men after Mohammed Salisu received a second yellow for the foul which led to Kane’s penalty.

Spurs had plenty of chances to capitalise on their man advantage, but could not convert.

Conte’s side may have felt hard done by when Kane seemed to have scored after a wonderful pass from Harry Winks from just inside the Spurs half.

However, VAR intervened, and judged that Kane had strayed offside just as Winks made the pass.

There was further controversy later on in the game when Southampton ‘keeper Fraser Forster fumbled the ball into his own net after a Spurs cross.

However, Matt Doherty was believed to have fouled Forster in the buildup, leading referee Anthony Taylor to rule out the goal and award a free to the Saints.

Southampton jump to two places to 13th in the league table. Meanwhile, Spurs remain in 6th on 30 points, five points off their North London rivals Arsenal in 4th.

Elsewhere in the Premier League’s 3pm games, Crystal Palace enjoyed a 3-0 win over Norwich, while West Ham were 4-1 winners over fellow Londoners Watford.

Later this evening, Liverpool can cut the deficit between them and league leaders Manchester City. Klopp's side travel to face Brendan Rodgers' Leicester. Kick-off at the King Power Stadium is at 8pm.
