WATCH: Sour Mourinho takes aim at conservative Bournemouth and VAR

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho believes his side's goalless draw would have been much different if his side were awarded an early penalty.

In the sixth minute, Harry Kane was bundled over in the Cherries' box by Josh King.

Referee Paul Tierney opted to leave the decision in the hands of VAR, who opted not to award a penalty to Spurs.

"I'm not saying that I think Harry Kane scores 100 per cent of his penalties," Mourinho said dryly after the game, "But I think his penalty efficiency rate is very very high.

"So normally, at minute 5, we would be winning 1-0 against a team psychologically in trouble. I think probably the game would be completely different.

"So like against Sheffield [United], the man of the match was not one of the players, but against Sheffield I had lots of my hands to blame myself and to blame the players, but not today."

Mourinho was seemingly taken aback that a side who had conceded nine goals in their last two games might try and be defensively more secure.

"I was a bit surprised because I thought that they wanted to win the game," he told Sky Sports, "It surprised me that they just want a point.

"But maybe they do the maths and they think a point gives them a chance - they know the calendar that they have ahead.

"The relegation fight, I believe that is one of the worst emotional fights to have because [it] effects the future of everyone.

"So I think that they did what they wanted to do to try to have a point."

The draw leaves Spurs ninth in the Premier League table and a point behind North London rivals Arsenal.

The sides meet on Sunday at Tottenham's stadium, and Mourinho was asked if he feels ready for that game.

"We are always prepared", he replied with a caveat, "Even if you have fatigue, even if you have problems, you always have to be prepared for that.

Pointing to Arsenal's two days extra in preparation time for the derby, Mourinho said, "They are resting for 48 hours. It's not even 24 hours difference, it's 48 hours.

"But we have to play, and we are going to fight.

"If we win that game we pass them in the table, and that always has to be the objective."
