WATCH: Robert Lewandowski lucky to escape injury after flare exploded in front of him

Poland's Rober Lewandowski was lucky to escape serious harm during yesterday's World Cup qualifier against Romania, when a flare exploded in front of him.

The Bayern Munich player was seen collapsing to the ground and holding his face after the incident, which required treatment from the team medical staff.

He was later cleared to return the game after a lengthy delay to help his side go on to secure a 3-0 victory. After the game, Lewandowski posted a positive update on his Twitter account, reassuring his followers that he was unharmed.

The game was also interrupted just before half-time when flares and firecrackers were thrown on to the pitch. Poland are now on 10 points at the top of Group E and remain unbeaten after four games.

Meanwhile in Group F, England cruised to a 3-0 victory against Scotland with goals coming from Daniel Sturridge, Gary Cahill and Adam Lallana.
