WATCH: Lionel Messi leads media boycott after scoring wondergoal for Argentina

Lionel Messi's career with Argentina will always be deemed as unfulfilled, until he wins a trophy with his national side.

Having lost three finals in the past three summers, the Barcelona striker retired from international football after the Copa America Centenario Final in America last summer. He quickly changed his decision, and returned to the Argentine lineup for the World Cup qualifiers.

After last weekend's loss to bitter rivals Brazil, Messi led the side on Tuesday night to a crucial win over Colombia, in San Juan. Edgardo Bauza's side won 3-0 with the captain scoring the opening goal.

Arsenal and Colombia goalkeeper David Ospina, was in a helpless situation as Messi's freekick flew effortlessly into the top right corner.

After the match, Messi and his teammates refused to speak to the media, over what the captain called a "lack of respect".

An Argentine radio station reported that striker Ezequiel Lavezzi had smoked marijuana after a recent training session. It was confirmed that the Hebei China Fortune striker is to see damages in court over the claim.

While Messi is leading the team on the field, he seems to be taking a greater role off it too. Maybe the siege mentality will help his form with the team.

Argentina currently lie outside the automatic qualifying positions for the World Cup, with six games remaining.
