WATCH: David McGoldrick scores his first Premier League goals as Sheffield United crush Chelsea

The long wait is finally over for the Republic of Ireland striker as his brace helped deliver a massive blow to Chelsea's Champions League hopes.

Despite his long run for a Premier League goal, David McGoldrick has been an instrumental part of Chris Wilder's team as Sheffield United continue their exceptional season with a 3-0 win over Chelsea.

While not exactly prolific, McGoldrick's tireless work rate,ย  hold-up play, and ability to occupy defenders has been a large reason why the Blades still have European ambitions with three games remaining.

Those Europa League hopes have been given a massive boost as McGoldrick picked the perfect time to get off the mark.

After Oli McBurnie was picked out at the back post by George Baldock's cross, Chelsea's keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga did brilliantly to keep the ball out, but McGoldrick was on hand to put away the rebound for his first league goal in over a year.

McBurnie turned from provider to finisher as he doubled the Blade's lead before McGoldrick struck againย in the 76th minute. The Irish forward pouncing on a mistake from Antonio Rudiger to kill the game off and wrap up a famous three points for Wilder's side.

Speaking with Sky Sports after the game, the Irish international said the goal "means the world, I made my debut when I was 16. Everyone's dream is to play in the Premier League - I made that dream this season - and I've now made my second dream, which is to score.

Take a look at the goals that every Irish supporter will be proud of.
