I want to be Barcelona's next manager - Ronald Koeman

Ronald Koeman has declared his desire to be Barcelona's new manager but insists he's yet to sign a contract to succeed Quique Setien in the Camp Nou hot-seat.

Setien's reign was ended by the Catalan giants yesterday in the wake of their 8-2 thrashing by Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Friday night.

Netherlands boss Koeman, who is a Barcelona legend from his playing days, had been approached to take over the club in January but instead opted to stay with the Dutch national team until after Euro 2020.

The former Everton manager met with the Dutch FA this afternoon and admitted to reporters that he's keen on taking over at Barca.

“Yes, I’d like to, but it will only be confirmed once I have signed the contract," Koeman told Spanish daily AS.

“Until then, I cannot say any more about it – even though I’d like to.”

In sacking Setien last evening, Barcelona also committed to making sweeping changes ahead of the 2021 campaign.

“The club will continue to implement the plan to reverse the sporting and economic situation, based on profound changes to the first team, plus a redefined budget to deal with the new situation caused by Covid-19, before the end of the current mandate.
