Jon Walters wants more Stoke game-time when he returns from Ireland duty

Jon Walters is targeting more first-team involvement at Stoke City when he returns from Ireland duty.

The forward came on as a 77th minute sub as Stoke drew 1-1 at Manchester United.

The Ireland international has only made two 90 minute appearances this season and after the upcoming international break which sees the Boys in Green play Georgia and Moldova on October 6th and 9th respectively, Walters wants to see more action at club level.

"Hopefully I'll get more game time over the next couple of weeks, first of all with Ireland and then with Stoke when I come back," he told Off The Ball's Dave McIntyre at Old Trafford.

"And if not then I'll reassess then."

While Georgia and Moldova are not much heralded, Walters is not taking the opposition for granted as Ireland seek six points from their next two World Cup qualifiers.

"These two games, you don't realise how good some of the players are in these teams, the likes of Georgia and Moldova. They're very technically good players, big strong boys and they'll be difficult games," he said.

As for the draw at United, Walters feels it's the perfect tonic to kickstart a season that has started poorly for Stoke.

"Especially on the back of recent results, it's a huge point," he said.
