Van Gaal criticises fixture congestion

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says the last round of Premier League fixtures suggests that having so many games over Christmas is not wise.

He is unhappy with the high number of matches in a short space of time.

United drew 0-0 with Tottenham on Sunday, while leaders Chelsea finished 1-1 at Southampton.

Van Gaal says the games hardly provided top-notch entertainment in the second periods of both matches.

"It is not good for the health of the players and it is not good for the game because I think the fans also want attractive games," he said.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet also suggested that there are plenty of people eager to bring in a winter break.
