The jerseys of Manchester United's double signings, Christen Press and Tobin Heath, have each sold more than any of the club's male players in their first three days as United players.
While their male counterparts suffered a 6-1 humiliation at the hands of Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, the United women showed that there is still lots for fans of the club to be excited about.
The World Cup-winning duo made their United debuts on Sunday in the 3-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at the Leigh Sports Stadium.
Heath made an immediate impact from the bench when she whipped in a cross for Jane Ross to head home and make it three for the home side.
Christen Press also took to the field for her debut with the pair making this United side look like a very exciting prospect for the season ahead. Manager Casey Stoney will be hoping her side can challenge the top three this season.
Speaking on Monday morning’s OTB AM, women’s football writer Flo Lloyd-Hughes explained the complexity of such signings from the NWSL and how this is now a window of opportunity for the WSL to grow.
With the sales of shirts with Heath and Press' names outselling that of the men’s side, it is yet more proof that the league and women’s game continues to grow.
