The 30-man shortlist for the African Player of the Year award has been announced, and there's plenty of familiar faces for Premier League fans.
Twelve of the names on the list are currently plying their trade in England's top-flight, with Riyad Mahrez, Sadio Mane, and Islam Slimani expected to be serious contenders for the award, although Borrussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remains the favourite as he looks to retain the title picked up for the first time last year.
One noticeable absentee is Manchester City's Yaya Toure. The Cote d'Ivoire captain, who was heavily criticised for his comments regarding the award last year, misses out on the chance to become the only player to receive the award five times, leaving him level with Samuel Eto'o on four a piece.
