Troy Parrott's Spurs career | "He is a baby in footballing terms"

Troy Parrott may have to patient in his quest for first-team football at Tottenham Hotspur, accoring to Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic.

The young Irish striker is in the collective mindset of Spurs fans after the injury to their first-choice forward, Harry Kane.

Parrott is also coveted by many Republic of Ireland fans who would like to see him drafted into the first-team squad for the Euro 2020 qualifier against Slovakia.

Troy Parrott: patience needed?

"The view amongst the Tottenham fanbase - certainly on social media - is very much the same as there would be in Ireland," said Eccleshare of Parrott's standing.

"I did feel a little bit like I was telling children that Santa Claus wasn't real when I tweeted Mourinho's quotes that Parrott wouldn't get an enormous amount of game time.

"Realistically, he is not going to play an enormous amount this season. Mourinho has said that he is 17, that we need to give him time and he is a baby in footballing terms.

"His chances will increase if no-one comes in, but he would still only play if they suffered some more injuries."

It was the lack of playing time, even in cup matches, that stands out to interested observers of Parrott's career.

"Yesterday was a good example, because there was an outcry that he wasn't on the bench for the FA Cup game against Middlesbrough.

"But when you see that the two attacking subs are Son Heung-Min and Dele Alli, that gives you an idea of the pecking order, certainly in Mourinho's eyes.

"I would love to see Parrott play, but I think we might have to be a bit patient on that one."
