Tony Adams appointed as Granada manager until end of season

Tony Adams has been appointed manager of La Liga strugglers Granada until the end of the season.

The former Portsmouth manager takes the job with Granada sitting second bottom in the league, seven points clear of safety.

The move comes following the sacking of Lucas Alcaraz on Monday afternoon and the 50-year-old - who was recently appointed the as sporting director by the club's Chinese owner, Jiang Lizhang - will take charge for the remaining seven games.

"After assessing the situation in which the team is in, Granada CF has decided to party ways with Lucas Alcaraz and his coaching staff," a statement on the club's website read this afternoon.

"Instead, the club relies on Tony Adams, vice president of DDMC [Football Club Management Company], as head coach of Granada CF until the end of the season."

The Romford native spent last season working with Chinese Super League side, Chongqing Dangdai Lifan, who are also owned by Lizhang.

Adams has also had a short spell as manager of Wycombe since announcing his retirement from professional football in 2002.

During his time as a player, he won four English top flight titles with Arsenal, three FA Cups and two League Cups, among others.

He has also worked in a coaching role with Dutch club, Feyenoord.
