Barcelona defender Todibo confirms he has tested positive for COVID-19

Barcelona defender, Jean-Clair Todibo, has confirmed that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

The 20-year old has tested positive for the virus and is currently asymptomatic and quarantining at home in Barcelona.

The player announced the news on his Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon.

"I inform you that I have tested positive for Covid-19. I am asymptomatic and I feel fine. I am at home following the proper health protocol. I really wanted to go back to training but now it's time to stay home until the virus is over," the message read.

"Thank you all for the support and encouragement. To all the people who are experiencing it closely, a greeting."

Barcelona had announced the news on Tuesday in a statement but the club had not confirmed the identity of the player in question.

Todibo had not been in contact with the squad which travelled to Lisbon following Saturday's victory over Napoli in the last 16, according to the club.

"The player has no symptoms, is in good health and has been quarantined at his home."

"The club has reported the matter to the relevant sporting and health authorities."

"All persons who have been in contact with the player have been tracked to perform the corresponding PCR tests.

"The player has not been in contact with any of the senior team players who are scheduled to travel to Lisbon this Thursday to compete in the Champions League," their statement read.

Barcelona are not the only Spanish side to travel to the Portuguese capital amid concerns over the virus.

Atletico Madrid confirmed that two of their squad tested had tested positive prior to flying to Lisbon. Atletico are due to play RB Leipzig on Thursday evening.

The two in question, Angel Correa and Sime Vrsaljiko, were forced to remain in Madrid as a result of testing positive.

The news comes as cases have continued to rise throughout Spain.

Barcelona take on German champions Bayern Munich on Friday night at 8 pm at the Estadio Da Luz in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
