Bayern Munich will be without Thiago for their trip to Bundesliga title rivals Borussia Dortmund tomorrow night.
The Spanish midfielder sat out Bayern's win over Frankfurt at the weekend with a muscle injury and he was unable to train today.
"Thiago did not train today," Bayern boss Hansi Flick revealed at his news conference this afternoon. "Unfortunately he will miss the game".
Dortmund are sweating over the fitness of defender Mats Hummels ahead of "Der Klassiker" while Bayern are confident that Jerome Boateng will be passed fit to start.
Axel Witsel and Emre Can are back in contention to start for the hosts who could restore English rising star Jadon Sancho to their starting XI.
Eight in-a-row chasing Munich won the corresponding fixture 4-0 earlier this season but Flick says that result will have little bearing on tomorrow's result:
"It is a completely different game from the first one, we are on a good run and have lost only twice in the last 23 games and drawn once. We relish this game. It's what this job is about and that motivates the players more."
Bayern will take a four-point lead in the title race into the showdown at Signal Iduna Park after their 5-2 weekend win over Frankfurt while Dortmund keep the pressure up beating Wolfsburg 2-0 in a scrappy encounter on Saturday afternoon.
