Although 'Batman Vs Superman' won't hit the silver screen till March 2016, the Caped Crusader is squaring up for another battle in the near future. DC, the comic-book publishing giant, is suing Valencia FC over who has the rights to claim the bat logo as their own.
The New York-based comic book giant has filed papers with the European Union’s trademark arm asking for Valencia FC to change their own bat-themed shield.
The legal debate here is hard to call, given that DC’s bat logo has changed at least eight times since the first book was printed in May 1939.
Valencia FC has actually included the bat in its logo since 1919, although it has undergone a few versions throughout the club’s history. The city of Valencia has used a bat in its crest since the 13th century, when James I reclaimed the city from the Moors.
While the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market, the branch of the EU which deals with trademark disputes, won’t comment on individual cases, the BBC reports an 11-page document was issued by DC last year and the results of the case are pending.
