"That's tournament football" - Seamas Keogh on late Greek goal

Republic of Ireland under-17 captain Seamas Keogh says his team are devastated after conceding a late goal against Greece at Tallaght Stadium on Friday evening.

Ireland dominated proceedings with assured displays from Timi Sobowale, Joe Hodge and Keogh himself, as the home side pressed the action in front of over 4,200 spectators at the south Dublin venue.

Matt Everitt opened the scoring after scrambling home his won rebound in the 58th minute.

Colin O'Brien's charges pushed for a second but it was the Greeks who broke Irish hearts with a late strike.

Speaking to Off The Ball's Jamie Moore after the game, Keogh said: "It was a great experience in front of all those people but the result, we wanted more but it is what it is.

"We dominated the game for 80-plus minutes. We're happy with the performance but we wish the result went differently," he said.

There was controversy over the equalising goal after the linesman indicated an offside but let the goal stand and the Irish captain accepted the strike was legitimate.

"Initially, I saw the linesman raise his flag so I thought he changed his mind but as the game ended and people spoke, I've heard it came off our player which clearly means the goal stands.

"That's tournament football - theses things happen. So, it's how you bounce back and brush it off your shoulders and go again.

"It was such a big crowd and such a massive honour for me and the lads. Thank you to everyone who came out and thank you to everyone who watched and hopefully we can get the same support on Monday."

Ireland take on the Czech Republic on Monday in Waterford after the Czechs were held to a 1-1 draw against Belgium earlier on Friday.
