TG4 to broadcast Women's National League games

The Women's National League is set for live television coverage this autumn.

The FAI and TG4 this morning announced a deal to screen four live games as the 2021 season reaches its conclusion.

The first game to hit the airwaves will be Shelbourne's clash with DLR Waves on October 2nd.

It adds to the sporting portfolio of the Irish language broadcaster.

They've been praised for their efforts in raising the profile of Ladies Gaelic football in recent years, and are the title sponsors of the championships.

Their entry to the world of women's soccer has been widely welcomed.

The women's cup final has been broadcast by RTÉ over the years.

This season's league campaign is edging towards a fascinating conclusion, with Peamount currently leading the standings.

They hold a slender one-point advantage over Shelbourne, while Wexford Youths in third are four points adrift.

Speaking at the launch of the new deal, Shels' Saoirse Noonan hailed the positive news.

"Bringing TG4 in, you see what it has done for the ladies Gaelic football and I'm so thankful for that," she said.

"Even my grandparents that can't make matches, they can still watch it.

"I think all of us hearing it today it's brilliant news, and we're all really excited and it brings that bit more atmosphere to the game as well.

"You're on an Irish broadcast, so what more could you want?"

Alannah McEvoy of Peamount was also pleased to welcome TG4's partnership with the women's game.

"It's brilliant, obviously it's going to push on the league even more, women's football in Ireland right now is growing and it keeps on going.

"There are a lot more kids around, even learning the names and shouting on and cheering on for each team and we see more girls playing football now,

"Obviously they're looking up to all of us, so it's good."
