Sunday Night Takeaway: Wenger finally beats Mourinho

Arsene Wenger finally beat a Jose Mourinho side as Arsenal overcame Man United 2-0 at the Emirates on Sunday.

United fielded a weakened team as they prepare for the second leg of their Europa League semi-final with Celta Vigo on Thursday.

The first half was a fairly tame affair with hardly any clear cut chances created.

It sparked into life when Granit Xhaka opened the scoring after his long range shot was deflected off Ander Herrera and looped over David de Gea in the 54th minute.

Former United striker Danny Welbeck doubled the lead three minutes later when he headed in from close range.

Mourinho's side rarely threatened to score and the united manager bemoaned his busy fixture schedule as the season draws to a close.

At Anfield, Liverpool slipped up at home again after they were held to a scoreless draw against Southampton.

A dull match was brought to life when the home side were awarded a penalty for a hand ball in the box by Jack Stephens in the 66th minute.

James Milner stepped up to take the spot kick but Fraser Foster dived down low to his right to save his effort and the match finished 0-0.

Elsewhere, Newcastle won the Championship title after Brighton conceded a late Jack Grealish equaliser as Rafa Benitez's side finished on 94 points.
