Suarez following in Larsson's footsteps at Barcelona

While Luis Suarez is not currently matching his extra-ordinary goalscoring feats from his Liverpool days, the stats do show that the Uruguayan has been making a decent impact at Barcelona, especially in recent weeks.

But in terms of his role within Barca's star-studded team, Off The Ball's European football correspondent Graham Hunter believes comparisons to former Celtic legend Henrik Larsson are apt.

"It's hugely enjoyable to watch Suarez come in the way that Henrik Larsson did from Celtic to Barcelona in 2004, because I think they both enjoyed similar status at Liverpool and Celtic, whereby they were the reference point and the scoring man," said Graham, ahead of tonight's Champions League clash with Manchester City.

"Henrik Larsson moved to Barcelona and made the runs but didn't get the ball, because it was either Iniesta, Deco or Xavi. He got injured, he came back and he'd watched and he'd understood. His movement was different, it was extra-ordinary and the crowd absolutely adored him. I think something similar has happened with Suarez. What we've watched is a player who's come in and has been lacking fitness. But he's brilliantly understood the brilliance of Neymar and Messi, his movement is extra-ordinary, he's not scoring as many goals but he's complemented the two of them exceptionally well."

Larsson won the Champions League at Barcelona in 2006 as well as two La Liga titles. The Swede went on to score 19 goals in all competitions during two seasons in Catalonia.
