Southampton land gifted Bayern Munich midfielder

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, a midfielder who Pep Guardiola promoted to train with Bayern Munich's senior squad at 17 and was entrusted to start the German Pokal Final shortly after, is on his way to Southampton.

"Yes, I can confirm that Pierre will switch to Southampton," Soren Lerby, the player's agent, told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet.

The Danish midfielder has spent the last two seasons on loan at Bundesliga clubs Augsburg and Schalke having failed to continue his early development under Guardiola but he is an excellent signing for Southampton who will be continue to push towards Champions League qualification despite losing Ronald Koeman to Everton this summer.

They also lost Sadio Mane and Victor Wanyama to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur respectively but Hojbjerg is the type of midfielder who can dictate the pace of a game, create, defend and work laterally from the centre of midfield.

At a reported €15 million, this is a snip considering they still make a profit after losing the other two players.

Hojbjerg had previously said, "I want to leave and find the right place for me. I need to find something that fits me.

"It's clear that it won't be a top club. I want a place where there is a perspective. That's important for me because I've experienced a lot at only 20 years."
