United We Stand's Andy Mitten joined The Football Show on Tuesday to discuss Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Manchester United suffered arguably their worst defeat ever on Sunday against Liverpool, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains in charge.
The Manchester United hierarchy reportedly met to discuss Solskjaer's future on Monday. Solskjaer took charge of training on Tuesday while Alex Ferguson attended to offer him support. Although Solskjaer is in charge now, it appears unlikely that he will remain in charge surpassed the end of this season.
If he lasts until the end of this season that is.
A despondent Andy Mitten joined Joe Molloy on Tuesday. Mitten channeled all Manchester United fans and the desolation they have endured since Sunday. But while many of those fans are desperately hoping for Solskjaer to be replaced before their next game, Mitten says otherwise.
"His position is safe for now," Mitten said.
"I don't think a date has been set for sacking him. I know that there's concern as there would be because of the results, because of the performances. But the stories yesterday saying that he'd been sacked or that he was about to be sacked imminently are and were inaccurate.
"My sources for that information are people I've trusted for a long time."
Manchester United fans can expect more of the same.
Solskjaer will stay. But Mitten doesn't think much will change in the short term regardless of who is the manager.
"Whether he stays or goes doesn't change the fact it's been a really bad time for Manchester United. The results in recent weeks and the performances have not been good enough at all. There's real concern among the supporters. I was at the ground on Sunday and it was awful.
"The fans were pretty supportive right through to the end. Liverpool fans were enjoying every minute and I'd do the same if I was them.
"They were pretty horrified at what they'd seen, a week after conceding four goals at Leicester City. The team cannot keep a clean sheet at the moment, individual performances have been way off where they should be. Clearly most of this is on the manager."
There is no real argument for keeping Solskjaer right now aside from the fact that there isn't an obvious replacement. United might wait around forever looking for the perfect candidate. By then, they might be out of the Champions League.
While missing out on the Champions League would be devastating, nothing will feel as bad as Sunday did for Manchester United fans.
"Conceding five and losing 5-0 at home to Liverpool is as bad as it can get for Manchester United."
