'Solskjaer isn't consulted on transfers' | Giles on Ed Woodward

Ed Woodward appears to not even "address" Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when discussing Manchester United signings, according to John Giles.

Giles believes that the relationship between United's manager and CEO is so poor that the Norwegian does not have any say in the club's signings.

Giles believes that this situation is alien to the way a club should be run.

Ed Woodward: under fire

"The person that has to have the say [in transfers] is the manager because he is going to be responsible for results and everything that goes with that.

"If Solskjaer was here now, I would say to him: 'Do you want [Bruno Fernandes]?'

"If he says yes then you have to go back to Ed Woodward and impress on him that is his job to go and get him for Solskjaer.

"[If that doesn't happen] then he is failing in his job."

Giles also believes that the relationship between manager and CEO is key to a successfully-run club.

"You have to have that setup in a club where the manager says 'this is what I want', like in Alex Ferguson's time," he said.

"He and David Gill had a good relationship. I think that Ferguson trusted him completely.

"He would say 'I want Joe Bloggs,' and David Gill would go and get him for Ferguson.

"There was never any Director of Football during his time because he got in the players that he wanted and got rid of those that he didn't."

That situation does not exist at Manchester United, in Giles' opinion.

"Whoever is making the decisions there, I don't think Solskjaer is even being addressed.

"He is just given it, and that's it."
