“Solskjaer still doesn’t know if Pogba is staying or not”- Andy Mitten

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still in the dark over whether Paul Pogba is staying at Manchester United, according to Andy Mitten - editor of United We Stand.

Speaking to Off the Ball, Andy said “Solskjaer doesn’t know if he's staying or not, he wants him to stay but even though Pogba has been training well he still wants to leave Manchester United.”

“The problem is that United don’t want to sell him, they don’t need the money and they certainly won’t be buckling to any lower bids from Real Madrid.

"It does look more likely that he will be staying but I don’t know and Solskjaer certainly doesn’t know.”

The situation reminded Andy of another from six years ago.

“He’s been professional at Manchester United, but I think a good comparison maybe is Wayne Rooney in 2013 when he wanted to leave.

“I think Pogba has always been a good trainer, there was speculation around the pre-season tour that he wouldn’t be on it but in the first game, he was the best player on the pitch by a mile.

It just showed that the United fans should be careful what they wish for.”

While Mitten was unsure about the Pogba’s future he was certain about Lukaku’s position with the club.

“Lukaku wants to go and he would be the most probable one to leave, but Manchester United don’t want to take a loss on what they paid Everton for him.”

With one of United’s strikers nearly out the door, Mitten was more positive about one of United's young forwards Mason Greenwood who scored against Inter on Sunday.

“Mason Greenwood has been excellent coming through the ranks. Is he good enough to play for the first team and not only that play consistently at the level you need to play for Manchester United? I don’t know.”

“The best-case scenario is that Pogba stays, De Gea signs a new contract and Greenwood is good enough for the first team. Then you get a significant improvement from the players who were utterly shambolic at the end of last season.”

With United finishing sixth last season, there's a long way to go to bridge the gap between themselves and frontrunners Manchester City and Liverpool.

Mitten said while there have been positive signs from the pre-season tour, the fans still aren't on board with the team.

“There’s a fragile confidence at the moment that could easily be shattered. I think a lot of fans are still angry and unhappy with the recruitment this season. They need a lot of convincing - and I can see why.”
